Purpose

The Toucan Camera was already at the UAT stage and all hardware parts were developed. I oversaw user experience testing to understand how users interact with the camera, with the main goals of (1) improving the product design and interface with the associated mobile app (2) increase ease of use for the consumer (3) identifying UI, flow, internal process issues before public release and (4) provide feedback to the engineering team for informed changes.

Step by Step

IoT Devices need to be tested in real-world conditions.

  • Identified and contacted testing participants
  • Developed set of questions and tasks for participants
  • Implemented UX test with video and screen recording
  • Authored UX test report and delivered consolidated data, including suggested improvements, to developers
  • PS: Edited video and screen recording to 1 minute versions

    Explorations

I recruited 5 users and implemented the testing protocol to understand the areas for improvement. I let each participant install and use the product in a real environment, and conducted a survey after one month of use to assess the product.

Challenges During real environment testing, users encountered hardware problems which could not be fixed by the user.

Result Provided suggestions to improve some UI icons and revise misleading flow.
